Most skin care products are mainly water! When you apply them to your skin, the water is absorbed into the skin causing the tissues to expand so that the wrinkles become less noticeable and the skin feels softer and smoother. The problem is, water evaporates or is carried away by the circulatory system, and the skin goes back to being dried and wrinkled!

Your skin is supported by connective tissue. It's what gives young skin strength and elasticity. As we age, the connective tissue is subject to more and more free radical attack, the result being that the once elastic connective tissue becomes hardened which causes it to lose strength, ( we become saggy and wrinkled!) The thing about free radicals, once they start to attack connective tissue, they set up a chain reaction of attack that continues.

The only way your skin can fight attack from free radicals is with antioxidants. Antioxidants interrupt the chain reaction and stop it. Your diet is one of the main ways that you add antioxidants to your body. Dr Ray Peat, a biochemist who has written about the antioxidant properties of coconut oil has said,"It is well established that dietary coconut oil reduces our need for vitamin E, but I think its antioxidant role is more general than that, and that it has both direct and indirect antioxidant activities." Since raw coconut oil is unrefined, it has all of it's natural antioxidants intact which can benefit you by taking it internally and applying it topically to your skin!

Many skin care products are made with refined vegetable oils. The problem with these oils is the fact that they have been refined and hydrogenated, which makes them prone to producing their own free radicals right within the product. In other words, it is possible to be applying free radicals to your skin through the products you use! This can be accelerating the aging process rather than delaying it!

Our own natural body oil is called Sebum. When sebum combines with our perspiration, (which contains Uric and Lactic acid,) it produces a slightly acidic Ph to the skin. Most harmful bacteria cannot live in an acidic environment, therefore sebum and perspiration help protect the skin from harmful bacteria. When you shower or bathe, this protective barrier is temporarily removed making your skin vulnerable to bacterial attack. One of the best things you can do after bathing is to put medium chain fatty acids,(like raw coconut oil,) back on your skin to help reset the environment of protection!
